A Potato Is A Vegetable

"You sure?" the man asked, menu in hand.

The question was, in fact, whether or not a potato counted as a vegetable.

"You're just going to have to take my word for it," said Peggy.

"Well, OK," he said, "I guess I'll have the mashed potatoes and the green beens.

"Excellent," said Peggy. She took the menus from the man and his companion, a girl half his age, and walked towards the kitchen.

Reaching the relative safety of the kitchen, she found Jane, another server and said, "I'm going to write a book."

"What now," Jane asked.

"I just had an entire conversation about whether or not a potato is a vegetable," Peggy said.

Jane laughed and shook her head.

"In fact, that's going to be the name of the book," Peggy said. "A Potato Is A Vegetable."

At that moment, Laurie, another server walked up.

"Hey Jane," said Laurie, "Can you give me a hand?"

"Sure, what do you need?" Jane said.

"Table four, help me with the entrees," Laurie said. "The filet goes to the woman with the bad lamp."

"Bad lamp?" asked Peggy.

"She's got a, you know, lazy eye," said Laurie rolling her eyes. "You'll see."

And with that she was out the door, leaving Jane and Peggy laughing.
